Cultural diffusion is a term used by anthropologists. It refers to what happens when aspects of one culture, or one region, are spread into another culture. This happens all the time. With media, internet etc it is now happening more than ever - an example could be the way British English is now using a lot more American slang, pronunciation etc due to exposure to US films and TV. A much older example is body language. In Greece, people raise their heads to say "no" instead of shaking them. There is an area of southern Italy where they also do this, because the Greeks colonised this area thousands of years ago. You can find examples of this kind all over the world.

Cultural diffusion is:
The process by which a cultural trait, material object, idea, language, or behavior pattern is spread from one society to another.

When and how long it has been present:
This has occurred since the beginning  of civilization a little after the neolithic revolution occurred, and is still present today in the modern world due to easy communication.

Good historical examples are:
Triangular trade, silk road, the crusades, the gold salt route, and commercial revolution.

Cultural Diffusion is a concept of Cultural geography and it refers to the spread of different physical objects, ideas, behavioral methods and traits, and knowledge from one culture to the other.

Through Cultural Diffusion we can study how particular trends got to a geographical location, from where they actually originated and to which other places the traits were spread. The cultural geography of the world is constantly changing and the things being used in one area are quickly being used by people of other areas as well. Cultural Diffusion means the fast travelling of cultures from one place to another. Among examples of Cultural Diffusion the most common through which cultures spread are Communication, Travelling, Migration, Commerce and trade.
