Germany first became unified as one whole large country in 1871. Before that time it was simply a state that was made up a number of different small countries such as Prussia, Bavaria etc.

During the Cold, Germany was divided under the Hitler government into East and West Germany and was separated by the Berlin Wall. The only way to pass from East Germany to West Germany was through a gate called Checkpoint Charlie. The Berlin Wall resulted in families being separated many years. The Wall remained in place until recently when in 1990, a revolution by the German people lead to the tearing down of the wall. Before the construction workers arrived, the majority of people actually began to tear the wall down themselves either by hand of with hammers and other tools. Twenty years later, Germany is still peacefully united after such a long time of separation.

There are approximately 82.3 million people living in Germany at the moment and 42 million of this population are women. Germany has the largest population of any European State. A huge 89 per cent of Germany's population live in cities and in Germany there is an excess of 81 big cities with over 100,000 inhabitants in each.

Not only does Germany have a rich history, it is also home to some of the World's finest architecture and design. Germany has also been made famous for its fine wines, great beer and delightful cuisine. Some of the rural and countryside areas of Germany show off some of the most spectacular mountain views in the World. Germany also has a rich fashion industry which provides garments, shoes and accessories to countries all over the world. And every year Germany hosts many famous celebrations and festivals which are not to be missed for anyone visiting Germany at any time of year.

Maybe East and West Berlin were divided by the Berlin wall, but East and West Germany were divided by a razor wire fence.

1870 is when France declared War on Prussia, in the short story, Prussia then united the other "provinces", "countys", "departments" of the  area into Germany.
It was at the same time that France was an empire and became a republic. It is also when France lost Alsace to Prussia. It was known as part of the Holy Roman Empire until 1806.

I believe it was 1871 and it was prussia and some of the german states. It was actually 2 separate countries(East and west germany) sometime during ww2 then unified in the 1980's I think.

Some of these states were prussia, bavaria, hanover, saxony, these were either kingdoms, or duchies or princedoms with their own independent governments. On unjfication in 1871, the king of prussia became emporer of germany, also known as the kiser.
