Great Soul GandhiYes Gandhi worked to improve the conditions of the untouchables. He was against the strict caste system in India, and eventually won a portion of Government participation for the untouchables. Mahatma, an honorary name meaning 'great Soul' was a humble man who had an affinity for the poor and underprivileged, despite his superior status and upbringing.

Gandhi helped them by going on a fast till he got what he wanted and that was to let the untouchables go down the streets and loads more. He did this because he didn't agree with how people treated them

Gandhi campaigned to end the treatment of certain groups as untouchable under the Hindu religion. He referred to this group of people instead as Dallit (children of God) and worked to get equal rights for them.
