Malaysia has retained a stable government, and has remained a democracy, so those are two things that could be seen as long term and lasting effects that British colonialism has had. Malaysia also benefited from colonialism by being able to produce goods for Great Britain, and so their manufacturing industry is something that has largely derived from this era of colonialism. Whilst of course it could be argued that colonialism was wrong, it is without doubt that it has had some benefit on the country and has allowed them to remain an active force of the world's economy.

Of course, the unifying of their different languages has been an effect that has come from British colonialism. The stable economy, and not just their exporting economy, could be a result of colonialism too, but of course that can't necessarily be proved and is a touchy, debatable subject.

Of course Malaysia is an Islamic country, but the idea of democracy and freedom which is held in the heart of Great Britain has lasted there, and now the country is an active democracy.

Whilst all of this is true, it may not be precisely what you're looking for. This appears to be a question from academia, and hence you need to look at your textbooks and listen to your teachers. Only these sources will be able to give you the information you need, and whilst what I have offered you at the top of this answer is completely relevant, it might not be what is required of you to write in your course. You need to ensure that you are providing all the right information and not writing generic information that most people would know who were not in your course.
