The Water Moccasin has a southern range that does not extend into Michigan.  All snakes swim, but whenever someone reports a Water Moccasin in Michigan, it inevitably turns out to be the non-venomous Northern Water Snake.

The only venomous snake in Michigan is the Massasauga Rattlesnake.

There are many strong suspicions that water moccasins or other wise known as cottonmouths are in Michigan. I have ran into 7 very aggressive snakes as big as mountain bike inter tubes and bigger I have found all of them in bushes next to rivers, under bridges, and in mossy areas in swamps. They were all a dark black top and a tinted yellow underbelly. I am positive that these snakes are in Michigan but I also live on the border of Michigan and Indiana.

Yeah, my dad thinks so, and I almost stepped on a snake that looks like a moccasin in the huron river.
