Bartolomeu Dias was actually a Nobleman from the Royal Household, with a passion for exploration of the world. He is considered to be the first European to sail around the most southern tip of Africa.

The corresponding year of his travels is said to be 1486. He was on a exploration trip with Diogo de Azambuja during 1481, who was appointed by King John II of Portugal to sail around Africa and find a way to Asia.

They traveled towards the Congo River, then entered the Walvis Bay on African Coast. Then they were caught in a storm and had sailed beyond the tip of the continent during it. No one else has been to this place called Cape Agulhas which is the southern most tip of Africa.
