French Revolution happened in France from 1789 to 1799. It was the period of political and social upheaval. There are a number of reasons because of which this revolution happened.

First reason was that there was an increase in the malnutrition in France, which had increased the deaths and diseases. Because of the poor transportation infrastructure, food import was also not possible.

Secondly, France was at the verge of bankruptcy because of the participation of Louis XV, in wars. These wars increased the debts on France.

Thirdly, there was an inefficient financial system over there. Economy had very high inflation and prices of necessities were also increasing. There were two many custom barriers which were also causing no internal trade.

In simple words the economy was moving towards recession. Therefore, all these factors together contributed in bringing French Revolution.

The people were paying taxes and getting nothing in return. The Aristocrats were treating the poor people very badly. They were starving and their government was doing nothing about it, so the peasants rebelled.

Well theres like loads of reasons why - financial crisis, economic crisis, failure of foreign policy, the impact of the enlightenment, the ineffective and VERY chaotic taxation system, failure of the reform ministers,  the fact France was meant to be an absolute monarchy, but the king was a poor leader, and the departments did many of the duties which an absolute monarch should do. Court expenditure was huge, Marie Antoinette, Louis XVI's wife was nicknamed "madam deficit". Probably the main thing about the causes of the french revolution was the class structure, with the clergy and the nobility, the first and second estate, being exempt from taxation, the nobility only in parts. The third estate in practicality therefore had to pay for all the taxes, (they accounted for like 97% of the population) - which angered them a tad. Erm the upper third estate, the bourgeoisie were rich, and growing in power as a class, it would be these people who would form the first revolutionary government out a long list of revolutionary governments. You also have the food riots, the price of bread falling, the aristocratic revolt and furthermore the politicisation of the masses. :D
