Immigrants come to America to find something better.  Sometimes to escape being poor, sometimes to escape prejudice.    Whether it was the Irish coming when they had the massive potato famine and many were plunging into debt and trying to live without food or money...or Southern Americans' trying to escape penury in countries with good resources and bad governments...or even illegal immigrants who want to escape so badly they come to do the unwanted jobs and live off welfare.    Whether it is the Jews coming to escape prejudice...or the Catholics...or the Protestants...or the Muslims (although right now the U.S. Seems like a bad choice)...or the Buddhists.    Whether it is smart people who want the opportunity to learn more and live in a capitalist country...or survivors who are brought here from wreckage and poorly supplied camps of varying levels of respectability.

They come to America to get better jobs than they get in their own country which is the same situation as Mexicans going to America to find better jobs and they bring back the US money they receive and change it for Mexican money. Then they could even become millionaires or billionaires in Mexico.

That depends on which immigrants you are referring to. Spanish Immigrants settled first in Florida, English Immigrants first settled in Massachussets and Virginia, Later Italian and Irish immigrants settled in New York and Pennsylvania along with Dutch and German immigrants. Scandinavian Immigrants tended to settle the Northern Boundaries of the U.S. Territories like North Dakota and Minnesota, French Immigrants initially settled in New Orleans, before moving North into what was then French Territory. Irish And German Immigrants In The Early 1800SIrish and German Immigrants in the Early 1800s
During the early nineteenth century millions of people left their homes and headed to America in Search of a new life. Many of these people immigrated from Ireland and Germany . Most people came through New York harbor, first seeing the Statue of liberty, and then first setting foot on American soil at Ellis Island . These immigrants had different motives, places they settled, impacts on our culture, and reception by native-born Americans.
German immigrants during the early 1800s began coming to the United States in greater numbers in search of freedom. Especially after the Napoleonic Wars many people sought freedom from military involvement and political oppression. Some also came for religious freedom. Nearly 2 million Irish immigrants arrived in America in the 1840s. At this time they came to America because of the potato famine which left thousands starving and homeless. America held the promise of a new life and a new hope.
When they arrived in America the immigrants went in search of new places to settle down. Most German immigrants headed toward the west. They settled heavily Ohio , Wisconsin , and Minnesota . They tended to become farmers. The Irish on the other hand did not have enough money when they arrived to move west, so they settled in the cities. They are famous for being in Boston , New York , and other New England cities.

Because it was the land of the free and they were probably poor and got letters from family you that said life here is great some of them probably were prisoner and they said you can go to the new land or get your head cut off so they would come.they would come to live the american dream like andrew carneige did.And the reason the irish came is because they were poor farmers who just made potatoes could you imagine eating potatoes every night and this about early immigration from about 1820 to 1900.and Tanner sanness wrote this from spring grove mn.

Immigrants came to America in order to escape the economic turmoil and religious conformity's of the european societies. They migrated to gain a better life style which included a better life in general and the "perfect" family. Such as, a wife, two kids, a dog, a car, and a house with a yard in the suburbs. This is what attracted people from europe. The ideal the America is a better place and anyone can be a someone...

OK but the Irish didn't come only because all they had to eat was potatoes, there was a huge potato famine, so the potatoes they ate "every night" all died out and they had no food.

For a chance to live. Many of the Cities, and towns of Europe were devistated during the War W1, and as ww2 approached they took what they could carry and came to the USA. In my own family, they came for a chance to make money to live.

Check an American history book for that one.  Each generation as far back as immigrations go had a different reason for coming here.  Some for religious freedom, some to find work, some to just have a better way of life for their family.  The reasons are as varied as the people themselves.
All people were welcome so all of the reasons are different.  This should be a long chapter in that history book.  Good luck.
