Eleanor Roosevelt was a U.S. First lady who was born in 1884 and passed away in 1962.    The opening sentence of her memoir is: "My mother is the most beautiful person I have ever seen." Unfortunately, her mother thought that Eleanor was far from beautiful. In front of friends and relatives, her mother would call her "Granny", because she was always so serious, awkward, and very old-fashioned. Her mother cautioned her, "You do not have the looks, so see to it that you have the manners." Her mother died when she was eight years old and her father died when she was ten.  However, Eleanor always thought that she was an ugly duckling.  So, it was all because of the teasing and because of the mean comments that her mother would always say about that Eleanor thought that she was ugly. She grew up and became a first lady in the U.S.
