India is basically a democratic Republic that is located in South east Asia. It is rated as the second most populated nation and also the seventh largest country by area in the world.
It has Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar as its neighbors. It has 28 states in total and also has 7 territories.
India has a parliamentary system having bicameral parliament. The formal head of state is the President. He is elected through an electoral college. However, Prime Minister is considered as the actual head of state having the most powers, He is directly elected by the public.
The current President is Pratibha Patil and the prime minister is Manmohan Singh.
