WOW!  Now this forces me to self disclosure. I have been trying to protect my identity and privacy on this site for quite a while, but I will share this with everyone, in fairness to the US government, and in the hope that many of you, who have been born in US would take a second look at our country and appreciate the blessings that we do have.

I came to US as a refugee from one of the former communist countries, where I was denied the right to believe in God and to practice my biblical faith.  At a time when the government of my homeland has rejected me, the US government has accepted me.  At a time of the government of my homeland has abused my basic human rights, and killed my husband, and took away everything that I have worked SO hard to accomplish, including my job and my house (as well as my family), the US government gas given me, not only the freedom to practice my beliefs, but also the privilege and opportunity to start all over, and maximize my potential by building a new and fulfilling life.

While no government is perfect, and I am aware of many areas where our government could reconsider its values, principles and practice, I would not change the government of USA for any government in the world - except for God's government, of course, which is the only infallible Government in the Universe.

Now, to align my answer to the subject of this question, I would like to say that, specifically, no particular "government figure" has enhanced any aspect of my life, in isolation.  However, as a system, the US government has had an immense contribution in enhancing my life and destiny. To God be the glory for it all!

If your talking about the brain washing, and the special training to make one the best killing machines the world ever saw, or the removing of my abilities to feel any emotions or caring for others, or if you mean the GI bill education with me not able to be around people or crowds or live a normal life, or if you mean my son telling all his friends to only sake his daddies feet if you wake him, or if you mean 40 years of nightmares waking in a cold sweat, and beating anyone in range, and trying to kill them, or if you mean having a nightmares watching a man with an AK 47 with the bayonet fixed stabbing me, and me knowing if I moved he would kill me, and wetting the bed with a women laying next to me who was trying to still love her Cowboy, or if your talking about the VA treating the 20 year vets with respect, and shafting us, or being arrested and put in Maximum Security lock down or isolation every time, because of my training, or if your talking about being called a highly trained government assassin in a court of Law in Polk County, Florida, or if your talking about a friend of mine with two Masters Degrees, and did two tours in Vietnam, and he, his son, and grand kids have Agent Orange, and VA will do almost nothing for he didn't have 20 years, and his Wife makes too much money, so he is not even in line for NON SERVICE related ($930 a month) even though he’s capable of making $150,000 per year! If he had 20 years he would get $4000 per month Service Related! Or if your talking about watching all my Brothers die from this death plague called Agent Orange, or if your talking about none of you SO CALLED AMERICANS will call your Senators or Congress People or do ANYTHING to help your suffering heroes you praise ONE DAY A YEAR!
Or me with an IQ of 158, and should have been a PhD, and forced to Cowboy in the woods away from you, FOR YOUR PROTECTION!
HERE IS WHAT I SAY!

Walk One Mile In my Shoes! I doubt you would want too, but you TALK AMERICAN and wave your flag for that makes YOU FEEL PROUD!
What about us? Your real, and still suffering VETERANS!
Well this Super Mean, and I stay away from you so not to hurt you, Veteran says “I hate my Government, but I love my country!”
I WANDER WHY?      WELL I EARNED THE RIGHT TO SAY HOW I FEEL, NO DOUBT!

DAV, Vet, and Cowboy, Logic101

Now that you've heard a VET YOU need to get off your butt and email your Congressman or senator and tell them you are not happy with their treatment of the VETERANS, and not just the 20 year Veterans ALL vets!
The way they are treating us Veterans is the same as you being a teacher, and putting all the blacks on one side, and the Spanish on the other and the whites in the middle, and grading all the test different!

WE THE VETS NEED YOU NOW!
WE FOUGHT FOR YOU, BUT NOW WHERE ARE YOU?

Logic, Thank you for your reply to my answer above. I promise that in my own way, I will be fighting for you and all those who have sacrificed their lives so that I may live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. It is time that we now stand for you, and I promise to do just that, not by attacking our government and telling them what they do wrong, but by helping them understand what I understand now as never before. They need to hear what you just shared above. Stories like yours have a way of reaching deep withing their hearts, and moving them to act, not out of guilt or coercion, but out of love, respect and gratitude. Honor!

Government for many decades have only enhanced their own lives.
Every since Nixon took us off of the gold standard system(only printing money that our gold and silver can back) our dollar is steadily worth less.
As an early teen, i can remember the dollar being equivalent to 200 peso's. Now a dollar is worth 10 peso's. Why does a toilet seat cost $400 dollars in the white house, but we can get one a the Depo for under $20?
Does anyone realize that our "incentive" checks came from borrowed Chinese money?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-government, our form of government is the best on earth, i just think our "elected" officials need to be held more accountable.

Hmm.. Gee.. I wonder if that would be the one who made me tear down my house so they could build a new highway... Then not build the highway there.  Or maybe it would be the IRS agents I have had the fortune to be acquainted with.  No, I know.. It was the cop who lied on an affidavit to get a search warrant for my tattoo shop in which nothing was found. (At least it cost him his job)

All I have mustered in my minute of cogitation is the raising of minimum wage. But perhaps that hasn't done us much good. some people are still failing to make ends meet, many are borderline should I state. With inflation the way it is at present, another increase in minimum wage may serve to be a wise implement.

Nope, last year our state government pushed a tax bill raising our sales tax 20%, the purpose of this increase was to give a property tax relief. The bill was voted on and put into effect. The only property tax relief was given to businesses. This is a right to work state meaning you don't have to join a union. You have absolutely no other protection under state law other than the few federal laws which apply.

They just enhanced the way for more advanced corruption, looting people and making their life miserable, they enhanced their fake promises speeches but failed to convince literate ones. They are only good for sitting on hot seat, visiting other countries (with hidden motive for more fun than work).
They are just making LIFE miserable and more miserable.
The above explains a bit of ugly side of new Government here.

I appreciate the Center for Disease Control and think they have probably protected me from all sorts of ailments that are rampant in other countries.  I also think the USDA has probably kept "Mad Cow" away from our shores.  I like the Fish and Game Commission because I think they provide a service that is of value to me personally in that I am highly allergic to mercury so knowing when mercury levels in fish are high is important to me.  I certainly enjoy whizzing down the Super Highways that are federally funded.  Oh, I do benefit from the food and drug monitoring of all the chemicals and crap that goes into our food and medicines.  Other that the aqueducts and the roads, what have the Romans done for us?", so I quote Monty Python.

I can't really think of anything the government has done.I can tell you what they haven't done though. We as the people of this country  for guidance and hope that they are  looking out for our best interest and it's sad to here that our money, hopes, dreams, and lives are crumpling right before us and that same government we are looking for help are to busy i mean don't care enough about the people until election time.

last week after wrangling with the beauracracy over my benefits, the grand poobah of benefits called me personally at 8:32 a.m. To tell me, that he personally reviewed my case, and all benefits would be back in place within 72 hrs. They came back within 48 hrs. He told me that no more visits to the office were necessary until next year. My last conversation with persons involved in this issue, did mention something about a Louisville Slugger and a refridgerator full of beer. I choose to believe that God stepped in! Some very handsome police officers made a polite visit. However everything got worked out! Praise God.

Well I hate to say this but if it we're not for these "autocrats"(individual people given power by us) we would not have a lot of the things we take for granted and the freedoms we have compared to the rest of the world. That said there are a lot of things we could have done without in order to have the ones we got...I thank god every day that i don't live in another country that has less than what we have or that controls every aspect of their citizens...it's not perfect but it beats anything out there...that i have seen or read about....besides I'm not sure i would or could live anywhere else than here...except on some deserted island  but knowing this world some government would claim it just to mess with me...lol :)

The question was about Government figures, which I take to mean a member of parliament (in the UK) and the Lords in the upper house.  MPs do a lot of good until they forget they are our REPRESENTATIVES and start thinking they are our masters.  The Lords take a lot of criticism from some sections of society but I have listened to their debates of commons proposals and by and large they are better informed and more considerate of the big picture than are the commons. The commons spend too much time sucking up to the party whips and ministers in the interests of their "career", and worrying about the next election to look ahead more than a few years.
