Anne wrote her diary for much the same reason as any girl her age would. She confided her secrets in her diary and shared her experiences with it. She talked about things she enjoyed, people he liked, what she hated about her life and described their whole situation. She received it on her thirteenth birthday and she started calling it 'Kitty'. She received it not long before they were discovered in hiding and taken away. This was the year 1942.
She did not mean to get it published. In fact no body wants their diary published now, do they? Even when Otto got it published, he did not allow the whole of it published. Many parts from it were censored out which Otto considered inappropriate. These parts have been released now though after about fifty years.
About getting it published, I do not even think she thought her fate would turn out the way it did. You know, you might know that bad things are happening and the worst are going to happen, but you cannot truly accept the ultimate end until it actually comes upon you. She wanted to share her experiences with somebody and turned to Kitty.
Anyway, her goal was not to publish it. The whole family died in the war except for her father, Otto. Otto found the diary when he returned and decided to publish it as a tribute to his heroic daughter.
Whatever the reason she wrote it, it is a true picture of the Nazi world as a person living in it would see it. Through her diary, we can appreciate the courage of her family and many like her. We see a nation battered by war and families shattered by fear and that little ray of hope still shining through it all.
thanked the writer.

You're all stupid.
You all seem so sure you know everything about her. Naive.
You'll never know the pain she went through.
