Are you optimistic about the United States? I am. Ignoring TV, radio, political blogs, I'm optimistic about what the American people can achieve.

Of course. There's no reason no to be.

The US has its problems, as we all do, but is better equipped than most to resolve them.

Looking from the outside, there are three places where the US lags behind the rest of the developed world: Religion, gun laws, and an abysmal health-care system.

I'm always optimistic about the U.S. ! We've had that " Can Do " attitude for many years and we still can do it. We can achieve almost anything if we put our hearts and minds to it ! We're the greatest country in the world ! To the future and all it holds for this countries greatness !

Well, I knew it was a waste of time trying to explain myself. Sorry for trying.

Nothing to be sorry about, Taylor. Nothing at all. We all have our own opinions and that's fine. I understood you quite well. I'm just a patriot as you are for your country. Simple as that.

Despite what Republicans would have you believe, millions of people live the American dream.  Amazing things happen here every day.

Republicans believe there was some magical time in the past when every thing was just terrific for everyone.  My grandparents raised children during the Depression.  My parents were married during WWII and then had to be apart because my Dad served in the Air Force.  I remember high inflation, gas lines, the Savings & Loan crisis and 9/11.  There have always been challenges.  Today is no worse.

Of course I am optimistic. That is why I vote. I don't think ignoring the political news will do you any good. It is interesting to see how the candidates react. It tells more about their character than their actual words. While I would not vote for Trump, he sure has all the other candidates talking about issues they have been tiptoeing around for the last decade. I like that he is stirring the pot.

There are bright people everywhere. America has the resources to help bright people. Eventually bright people should help America. We'll see.

The PEOPLE of America ... Yes.  (Generally speaking)

Except when it comes to electing leaders.  Then they seem to throw caution to the wind, and just go with whomever gives them the best sound bites - with no real substance.  But I get it now.  It's a case of: "Dangnabbit, is it time for THIS crap again?!?  Let's just get it over with."

I feel like America is a country where you can do great things regardless of who we elect. It all depends on the actual person and how they make use of being in this country. You can be a grumpy retail employee complaining about Black Friday, or you can be an accomplished academic and work at a fortune 500. It's all up to you!

I think people are the same everywhere, Walt. I know it's that way in Oz. The man most likely to be King Oz is the one with the best TV presentation.

Nope, there's just too much wrong and they don't seem to want to change anything. If anything it seems to be getting worse. It would be a shame, so I do hope that they manage to get it together before it's too late, although they may already be there...

So where are we if we are already there? =p

Taylor, I respectfully disagree with you. America is all about change. We handle anything that is thrown at us and come back better and stronger. No country is perfect, but with our CAN DO attitude much can be accomplished and is.
