Oh yeah. I live in Australia,. We were a collection of disparate British colonies until 1901 when we became a federated nation. Mind you, there are some people who think we are STILL a colony. :(

I live in the U.S. and it started out as a British Colony ! Like Didgeri said , some people think we should still be a colony or part of the old British Empire.
Actually ... What is now the US consisted of colonies from all the major powers ... England, France, Spain, Germany, Russia.
Unfortunately, much of that is ignored in our history classes, because the 13 original states were English colonies. They only touch briefly on the "Louisiana Purchase" from France, and the purchase of Alaska from Russia.
