If the R.A.F. hadn't beaten the Luftwaffe in 1940, could Operation Sea Lion possibly have succeeded?

The invasion may have started, but what would this have done to the Eastern Front? Less troops to fight Russia and more time for the Russians to prepare? It may have turned into a Russia vs Germany fight rather  than Germany vs Allies. Plus I believe if Sea Lion had succeeded, the US would have been the next target.

I think they thought that they could beat Britain before hostilities began with Russia. Good point about Russia vs Germany !

Actually I don't think they would have invaded Russia in 1941, but put it off and a joint attack on US with Japan. Both east and west coasts. Russia would have to wait.

There was also the thought that Russia was building up to attack Germany also. With Stalin? Who knows?

But the US, in 1940, did not want to get in the war. Would they have stepped in if Germany landed in England?

The government was chomping at the bit to get into the war. Bombers were being produced as well as other material we were futing the Japanese in china in an unofficial capacity. The flying tigers is one example
