Jimmy Carter was the thirty ninth American President from 1977 to 1981. He was born in a hospital on the 1st of Oct 1924. He was the first born child of James and Lillian Carter. He had four siblings and was raised in Plains a tiny hamlet in southwest Georgia. Jimmy Carter was a gifted student and graduated valedictorian in his Plains high school class.  He was also an excellent athlete, a star basketball and football player.    He attended Georgia South-western College and then Georgia Institute of technology. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1945 from the United States Naval Academy. Thereafter he served in the U.S. Navy, was handpicked by Captain Rickover to work on the nuclear submarine program.    In 1946 he marred Rosalynn Smith with whom he has three children. Jimmy Carter was always a devout Christian. He not only taught Sunday school but was even appointed Deacon of the Plains Baptist Church. He also served as a member of several local civic boards. He soon gained popularity and was elected to serve two terms in the Georgia state senate.
