His death was ironic because he thought that by taking his own life, he would defend his manhood but ironically, he was a coward and it was a "womanly act"

Achebe's novel conciste of an ironic and tragic end, which is embodied in the protagonist's death, who worked hard to gain the the respect of all tribesmen, and to live in prosperity,he won to prove that there is no way to compare him to his father ,who was acted such a women do.
He tried to show his hard side,no feeling, no sensibility...and so on. But the time show him that he can never be different, his soft side and guilt fellings, towards killing ikemuofuna, who was as an own son for him,and the lose of his pride place in the clan.lead him to show his real side.of weakness.and he chose to pass away,by putting an end to his life,in a hope to find peace.
