Hello,

In answer to your question in regards to the state of society in The Philippines circa 19th century, it appears that it was improving somewhat post Spanish enslavement. The Spaniards had monopolised on The Philippines from around 15th century - early 19th century and this was gradually declining at the onset of the 19th century. Society in general appeared to be advancing when America gained control towards the end of the 19th century, making Spanish occupation redundant.

The growth of agricultural success also positively impacted Philippine society at this time, following a burst in manufacturing of coffee, hemp and sugar.

During this time, there was also a deepened sense of camaraderie in society due to the unanimous desire for independence. Through this, a clandestine group of activists called the Katipunan were formed, who were committed to reaching this goal. Their desire to eradicate Spanish influence in their country was also peaked by a rise in education at the time.

This is a brief summary of the condition of society in the Philippines in the 19th century. I hope it helps.
