What Was The First Language Of The World?

There is no official first language of the world. Records only really began in the last millennium, and even then civilization only saw true preservation and upkeep in the 1900s up to modern day. The most probable first language of the world was Sumerian; the ancient language of the Sumer, but this is just a guess based on archaeological discovery. Other tribes, races, civilizations could, and probably did, have languages by this point, but there's been no discovery of anything to prove this theory. The probability is that fossilised traces and records of other languages have either been lost through erosion or construction and development, or perhaps just not yet discovered.

The Sumer lived in Mesopotamia, which is now modern day Iraq. Their language is recorded as early as 3,000 years BC. Akkadian was another language used in the following 500 years and eventually came to replace Sumerian, leaving that as the sacred language. Around this time Egyptian also came through, so it's plausible that while these civilizations were the most advanced, they were not alone in their language abilities and their writing or symbolism skills.
Incorrectly, people think Phrygian was the first language of the world. This only began around 800BC, so was shy of Sumerian and Akkadian by more than two millennia.

Tamil and Sanskrit both were spoken in INDIA. But Sanskrit was spoken only by Brahmins. Because Brahmins are only eligible to enter near to god in those days. They use Sanskrit to worship the god. They said Sanskrit is the only language they use to speak with god. So they didn’t teach Sanskrit to other peoples who are not Brahmins. It causes huge damage to Sanskrit, now Brahmins only know this. That too they know only the Mantras to worship the god. Tamil also is in INDIA only. Tamil was the official language of Tamil Nadu (South Most State in INDIA). While comparing to other language in the world Tamil had the Grammar First. Tamil is the first & foremost language which gets Grammar. Thirukkural is a classic of couplets, it was authored by Thiruvalluvar. Thiruvalluvar's year of birth has been fixed as 31-32 BC. Still Thirukkural it is been read & followed by most of the people in all part of the world. It is common to all peoples & religions. Its origin is Tamil. Thirukkural is written with pure Grammar.
You know about cow, it is the friendliest animal to human & also it is the first friendly animal to human. Ever one may heard the sound of cow, it will sound like AMMAA. In Tamil peoples will call their mother as AMMA. The word AMMA has Grammar meaning. In INDIA ladies only will take care of cows. When the cow sounds, ladies will thought the cow was calling her. Still the ladies in INDIA believe that. This is example to know how Tamil where used. So Tamil is the first language of the world.

TAMIL is the 1st language of the world, even many of the words in sanskrit is taken from tamil only and other important thing is aryans are not actually having indian origin so its apparent that dravidian language tamil is having very old origin and sanskrit is comes after that..
Another important thing is tamil is the only language got CLASSICAL status in india, so we don't need to argue anything even Indian government has confirmed which one is old and rich...also recently some england scientists have found all the other language are comes from tamil only...

Tamil is the oldest language. Not Sanskrit. Aryan culture is not older than Dravidian culture.
Aryans have systematically tried to wipe out evidence of the truth about Dravidians. But they did not succeed because the truth is slowly coming out.

Tamil -very first language in the world

It is true that tamil is the first language in the world. From Tamil other languages are born like dravidian lanaguages(Telugu, Kannadam, Malayalam, konda, kooi, prokooi,(prokritham) kotha, tulu, koorcharam(Gujarati) etc....). When Aryans came to Sindhu that time they don't have any language but spoken some iranic language. Its similiar to Jent Awastha. After they entered into India created Vedam and then created Sanskrit. 20% of Vedams + 20% of Prokritham + 40% of Tamil + 20% of new words = Sanskrit. So, Tamil is the world first language. Also 25 years back Mr. Devaneya Paavanar has prooved this true. If any body needs more clarification they can refer his book as well as Mr. Appadurayar.

Ancient Tamil that has has evolved from Proto-dravidian language which is very much older than many of the existing language and even much older than Sanskrit.
Many of the Sanskrit  and English words could be explained using only Tamil.
Aadam is Tamil origin word that comes from Aa+Tham Meaning "Early people".
Bhagvan comes from Tamil word Paga+van  enlightened.

God comes from Tamil word for God Kada+Ul "Gone ahead of everything or above all"

Aariyan  meaning teacher. Aa+Seer+Iyan. One who clears doubts.

Even the Aramaic language should have its root from Proto-dravidian.
Rahman is "Iraivan"  Irai+Avan meaning one who gives.
La is Illa meaning no...

You may think that sanskrit is the first language. According to the archaeologists the aryans invasion or aryans migration is true. The indus valley civilization had lived many years before the arrival of aryans to india. Archaeologists are also strong that peoples had spoken the dravidian language. The seals which was discovered in indus valley is similar to old tamil alphabets. So after the arrival of aryans the Dravidian peoples were pushed to the south of the indian peninsula. The aryans occupies the whole north india. Recently sanskrit scholars have accepted that there was an influence on sanskrit by Dravidian languages. You can see many tamil words in sanskrit. The indo-aryan languages are slightly differ from indo-european languages. The some words in indo-aryan languages are not in indo-european languages. This is because of influenc of dravidian languages on sanskrit. So from this we can conclude that tamil is older than sanskrit.

That's why people believe Latin Greek or Arabic (western languages) is the oldest language.. So the truth is not the one which most of them speak or believe.. Most of the people believe what their  parents  tell so they tell their own language as oldest... Muslims want to say Christianity  originated from Muslim..  So they believe Adam is Muslim.  But who said christian or muslim is the first religion?(may be your parents might told it who don't know the truth)
Just stop talking what you are following is the best one...
Take some time and check things(compare alphabets, words and meaning) and find your self whats the truth..
Most of them speak here don't even know more than 3 or 4 languages, so don't make arguments without knowing things...

So TAMIL is origin of all languages..
The basic reasons are,
1. Tamil words r created by considering the type shape and structure of things. (Crow is kaka in tamil, which make sound ka ka ka.. Cow is madu in Tamil, which sounds maa and many other examples can be given)..
2. Tamil is not originated from any language(People believe it was from Sanskrit, but researches went into failure. Check the records), its a created one...
3. When all language got modified and produced new one for changing world, but Tamil never gone any modification and they really don't need, because they have all things in it...
4. East or west you can see at least a single word from all other languages might be similar to a Tamil word.
5.People want to follow a easy and simple language, but Tamil is not a simple or easy one, so many are modified and created, which lead Tamil to degrade..
6. Their is a solid proof for numbers originated from Tamil, which is then carried out to Sanskrit and then called a arabic numerals..(Just search for numerals in these languages from net and find it out). Many people know zero was invented in India. And most important is still many languages can't find a word having more zeros than zillion or trillion but in Tamil it was named thousands of years ago...
7. Many such things can be written but no space here...

Even after this people will argue about their own kind but I remind them again don't speak what you feel or others tell to you, research and find the truth and go behind it...

Thank you....

Many people believe that Latin was the first world language. Although, it was one of the first, it was the not the first known language. The very first language of the world was Aramaic and it was the official language throughout the Persian Empire. Aramaic was considered to be the first structured language with vowel, consonants and grammar rules.

By early historical times the Akkadian and Assyrian languages, which originated in Mesopotamia, were current over the whole of the Middle East. From 900 BC they were replace by Aramaic, which became the main language of trade and diplomacy for everyone between Greece and Indus Valley. Admittedly, the Aramaeans were attacked and destroyed by the Assyrians, but their language, which contained a total of twenty-two consonants and was written on papyrus, was more practical that the Assyrian cuneiform script. At the beginning of the fifth century BC, Aramaic became the official language throughtout the giant Persian Empire.

Languages developed out of need people needed to be able to communicate with each other do they just evolved over time new words got added some erased so they just kind of formed out of need

It's surprising that so many posters here refer to Tamil. There are many langauges that pre-date Tamil, including it's own precursors. Tamil is one of several Dravidian langauges, so it makes no sense to compare Tamil to Dravidian.
The oldest spoken, structured language is most likely Akkadian or Canaanite, the proto forms of which were spoken long before there even was an Indian culture or Tamil-speaking people. The earliest written languages were Sumerian or Egyptian, although interestingly enough, both have references to Akkadian words, whose written form is thought to have come later.
The earliest language could not possibly have been Hebrew or Aramaic, as some here have stated, and Arabic is not even in the running. Ancient Hebrew is largely made up of combinations of Akkadian, Canaanite and Sumerian, and is structurally more primitive than all of them. Aramaic developed about the same time as Hebrew and shares many of the same characteristics.
For you Bible/OT scholars, Hebrew was not even named until Abraham's journey to Hebron. It is likely that Abraham spoke a mixture of Sumerian with Canaanite and Akkadian influences, given his geographical origin from your, and his legendary occupation as an international tradesman.

Tamil is the oldest language in the world, because first man who is changed from monkey is found in Tamil nadu as Archaeologist said. People who live in Tamil nadu still look similar to stone age people, dark and ruthless. Clothing, photography, movies, technology et etc everything is invented in Tamil nadu. First man travelled to moon, mars, all planets and sun is a Tamilian.

So Tamil is first language in the world.

I have read most of the comments. I really think its TAMIL.

Only because evidence that you can find now. Not the cooked up records. You will find 1000s of tamil words in Cameroon (Africa) and Korean. Both are miles apart.

My theory is tamils came from Africa . Maybe tamil was spoken little different that time... I think there are many languages coame out of tamil as people branch out.  I watched 50 korean dramas , and found Korean spoken language sound almost like Tamil. Latin , Aramaic , Sanskirit all probably branched out.

But who ever lives last in the earth will claim their language is original language. History always re written. I really think if you can find words from one language in many other languages used by people who are miles apart has to be Oldest language. In this case TAMIL. No question in my mind.

Don't know exactly but Sanskrit could be one of the earliest. The oldest script found is of Sanskrit the Rig Veda which is at 1500BC. The script only came later as there were no records which means that  Sanskrit would have been spoken many centuries or milenia earlier than the actual script was found. But the volumes of Sanskrit script found speaks of its antiquity. Tamil is also considered old but without script it will not be possible to accept its antiquity. Because the earliest script of Tamil only dates back to 300BC which also at the same time as the earliest Telugu script. We have also heard that people trying to identify Tamil to the language spoken by the Harappan civilazation but until now there is no proof or evidence that the Harappan's spoke Tamil or monuments that correspond to the Tamil culture. So as of now Sanskrit is the oldest language in India supported by Vedas that was found in volumes. Until other languages can find proof or evidence of earlier script only than we could accept their claims.

The oldest language known to man is Sanskrit, it is linked to all other languages. It is quite amazing that this language being of the oldest to all known languages was the first with an alphabet of 48 characters and 4 vowels. It is also the first language to use numerals (Hindu/Arabic numerals) this language was used in the oldest book known to man called the Vedas. The language spread from northern India/china westward. It has many similarities to Germanic languages more than any others. The language formed Aramaic from slang. This language is very very complex. There are thousands of words to explain one English word in Sanskrit, love can be defined in thousands of words in Sanskrit. Very very complex, it is the Latin of Latin

Though there are many old languages in the world, it is hard to say one language is older than the other. But we can support our theory by looking the current archaeological findings. Regarding to the origin of humanity archaeologist have something to say. Archaeologist found the oldest human being in east Africa. This implicitly suggest that the oldest language was spoken in east Africa.

Well , it is true that origin of human is in africa. But not language. Language is something which was developed after the civilizations occured . There are many proofs saying that greek and latin themselves are from sanskrit. It has been legally declared by many juries. Many words in latin that are used , sound very familiar to sanskrit. Since sanskrit is believed to be older than latin, those words obviously must have been derived from sanskrit.

Not sure what the first language might have been, and I don't think humans originated out of Africa. Before there were any continents and countries there was Ganawana Land and everything including language (all forms) came from there.

It is brahmi which is oldest language  of dravidian civilization as well as Indus valley civilization. Ofcourse Tamil evolved from Brahmi.

Right answer is not Tamil ( however it is close) , but it is Brahmi which was practiced atleast from last 8000 years.

No one knows what the first language was. It was probabley ancient Germanic or Hebrew. The Bible says that when the people were building the tower to Heaven, God got angry, because the only way to Heaven was by him. So He made everyone talk in diffrent languages. Other languages such as english or irish, came from Latin or Greek (some of the first languages). Irish came from English and other languages.
The first language recorded was Mesopotamian. We can't read the prints, because they are extremely old. People taught other people their languages so they could cumminicate and soon telegraphs and letters were invented. Then the telephone, computers, internet, email, I'm and text.
Happy new years! *Gives out free hugs!*

I have no idea what the first language was, but I would ask that for the purposes of this debate that religion not be used as an infallible source of information about ancient times.  Ignoring the debate about the veracity of religious beliefs, it is naive to assume that humans have not, over the years, altered religious stories to make themselves and their civilization look better.  It's entirely possible that the bible says Adam and Eve spoke Hebrew because the original people who told their story spoke Hebrew.  People probably said that the gods spoke Telugu because Telugu was the language they spoke themselves before those stories were written down.  Whether or not you believe in the truth of the word of God, you must see that all written texts are the creation of men and are subject to their fallacies.

Guys, there is diffrence between speaking and writting languages and u can not judge the spoken language of the first man by earliest scripts found of a language ex. Egyptian scrips. When human came to earth they certainly were speaking some language. We are talking here about atleast 20000 BC. The first language is the language of prophet (Noah) pbuh and all of todays languages are originated from it and began to devolope to what we sea today. First language were SEMITIC lang of Middle east.

Since there are many similarities between Sanskrit and Latin, many scholars have said that Sanskrit came from Latin or that they both came from a proto-indo-european language. However, the oldest literature in the world found so far is in Sanskrit (Rig Ved). There is also a plethora of evidence that Sanskrit was used in India and many other surrounding areas at least 5000 years ago. Therefore, I would have to say that Sanskrit was the first developed language of the world. I would also like to say that I strongly disagree with the whole aryan-invasion theory (which is based on false assumptions from German and British researchers in order to suppress Indian cultural pride), and I believe that Dravidian languages and North Indian languages are BOTH from India originally. There is tremendous evidence that Tamil has been in India for several millenia. However, evidence for the use of Sanskrit predates the use of Tamil. I am not saying other languages mentioned above are not classical languages, but scientifically speaking, Sanskrit is the first language.
