In the UK, the Universities & Colleges Admissions Services mediates student applications to higher education establishments. Under the UCAS system, points are awarded to students based on their educational qualifications. The full range of qualifications for which points are awarded can be viewed on the UCAS website at : www.ucas.com

Achievements under the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme are not directly translatable into UCAS points. However, each UCAS application form contains space for a personal statement from the prospective student. This is the appropriate place to list notable non-academic personal achievements such as attainments under the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. In some cases, where the academic achievement is slightly below the required level, an impressive Personal Statement can be enough to bridge the gap, and earn the student a place. There is no sure way to predict how much weight will be given to the contents of the Personal Statement, but Duke of Edinburgh awards are known to be one of the non-academic factors which admissions officers typically look out for.
