Corazon Aquino was the 11th president of the Philippines, and the first female president in Asia. She ran for office after the assassination of her husband Senator Benigno Aquino Jr.
Aquino's main contribution to the Philippines was that her insistence saw the return of democracy. She is often referred to as "the mother of democracy."
In addition to this, she was strongly focused on bringing a much more balanced state to the country. This included pushing for civil rights and fighting against communism and the potential eminence of extremist islamic groups. Her desire was to have a strong and grounded economy in the Philippines in a socially responsible and in tact manner.
Because of her reformed policies and strong egalitarian focus, conjoined with her reinstatement of democracy in the Philippines, it is fair to say that Aquino had something of a lasting impact and made a significant contribution to the country.
