Not quite, welfare is not for fathers, only the kids and the mother the Government feels that if you are a man and you are breathing then you should be taking care of your child and not the taxpayers. The reason this came about is because of cases like yours. Also keep in mind that they will be coming after you for whatever monies that they gave to your girlfriend because someone informed them that you were not giving up any support. To stop this from either taking your paycheck or going to jail, you have to tell them that you can take care of your own and do not need the government's help. Plus repay any funds that the state gave your family. As soon as welfare was asked for the clock started ticking and you are holding the bomb!

That isn't true. I was living with my boyfriend and we had a child together, and just because he was the father and was supporting us, the state still made him pay me child support every month. Because the fact is that we wasn't married and he was just a boyfriend(maybe future absent parent)

In ohio if the mother is on any kind of welfare and has a child and is not married they automatically create a child support order. Even if you two live together. To get rid of the order your gf needs to write a statement saying that you financially support her and she wants the child support order stopped. Both of you need to sign it and turn it in to her caseworker. If you do that they will also take your income into account when determining her welfare eligibility so she may no longer qualify.

You shouldn't have to pay child support if you are still living as a couple. You only pay it if you are estranged from the mother. (not living with/supporting them) Child support is for absent fathers.
