  • Sample Speeches

Here is a site that contains many sample speeches, all of which should give you an idea of how best to address a gathering, depending upon the purpose of the talk and the reason that the audience is there: http://library.thinkquest.org/C005627/Learn/Database/Sample_Speeches/sample_speeches.shtml .

  • About giving a speech to a gathering of people

One of the most important things that you have to remember to have when giving a speech to a group of expectant people is confidence; this attribute, when used correctly, shows your listeners that you not only know what it is you are talking about, but have a strong belief in it too, allowing them too to develop some form of faith in your points and arguments.

However, this is more easily said than done; by trying to maintain a high level of confidence, you may come across as arrogant, therefore diminishing any form of respect that they had, or could have had in the future, towards you.

Another thing that you need to be aware of when making a speech to a gathering is the use of your voice. You must make sure that you speak loudly enough for all to hear, but also ensure that you are not deafening them, as this will stop your spectators from focusing on what it is that you are actually trying to convey.

You should also focus on the speed that you are talking at. Although public speaking can be extremely daunting, you need to make sure that you do not rush through your points in your hurry for the whole experience to be over, as this will come across to the audience, and will prevent them from being able to concentrate (or even hear!) the points that you are trying to make.
