In 1590 Elizabeth I was still queen, as she had been since 1558. She died in 1603 and as she had no children or surviving brothers and sisters, the throne went to her cousin James. He was also king of Scotland (the 6th) but in England he was James I. He reigned until his death in 1625. You can find a full list of all English kings and queens here.
