He was a Roman political figure and an astute statesman. He became the dictator of Rome in 458BC and 439 BC. His full name was Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus. He was a Roman consul in 460 BC. He is considered as one of the heroes of early Rome. He was a model of virtue and simplicity. He loved working in his farm and lived a simple and humble life. He is almost a semi legendary figure. He opposed the plebeians.

There is a town named Cincinnato in Italy and Cincinnatus in New York. He did not crave power and liked his simple way of living. George Washington is called a modern day Cincinnatus because he did not seek political power after the victory of the revolutionary war. The society of Cincinnati is also named in his honour.
