The Greek Peninsula came under Roman rule in 146 AD after the Battle of Corinth and lasted until 410 AD when The Goths sacked Rome.
They vied for influence in the area of the Mediterranean in the years 500 BC to 400 AD, a rivalry that Rome would win. They worshipped the same gods (although they had different names), and the Romans saw the Greek way of life as something that they as "arrivistes" ought to aspire to. Philosophy, science and mathematics were shared by both.
