It's individual. Some beings hang around loved ones for awhile and other beings instantly go on to their next life. Any person has the ability to communicate with someone else who has left their physical body. Some people are just more aware of this ability than others are. It is very common to feel or sense a deceased loved one. Remember though, the deceased no longer has a body to speak with, so will use thoughts to communicate. It is common for two way communication to occur during sleep. Was it a dream or was it real? Usually it is real.

The Bible teaches us in Ecc 9:5-6...For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not anything, neither have they anymore a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also thier love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished, neither have they anymore a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.

This tells us that the dead CANNOT communicate with the living.
Any one who profess to do this, is being used by the DEVIL and his fallen angels to decieve you, by disguising themselves as loved ones to lead you into spiritual darkness.
As much as you may grieve and want to speak to a loved one who has passed, they are GONE!!!
