St Vincent de Paul society is one of the biggest and most influential charities worldwide at taking on issues surrounding poverty and hardship across the world.
St Vincent de Paul was a Catholic priest who devoted his life to helping the disadvantaged, and was known as the Great Apostle of Charity. These are the virtues that St Vincent de Paul Society was founded on.
Although they are fundamentally a Christian organisation, the help and support they offer is open to people of all faiths, and they pride themselves on not making value judgements on anybody needing their support, which I think makes them a great charity.
SVP raise funds in a variety of ways, including charity shops selling clothes, booths and bric a brac, which are run by volunteers, and can be found in 149 countries across the world. They also take direct donations on their website, and are a member of Giftaid.
