Helle Thorning-Schmidt is the female prime minister of Denmark you may recognise from that famous "selfie" with Barrack Obama and UK prime minister David Cameron:

Not too much is known about Helle Thorning-Schmidt's religious beliefs, but scratch below the surface and actually there are some interesting controversies in her life.

Denmark is a predominantly Christian country, with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark having the largest following.

However, like the rest of Europe, Denmark has struggled with multiculturalism and integration of other religions.

As prime minister of Denmark Helle Thorning-Schmidt and her Social Democrat party have been accused of being both too lenient  and too heavy handed with immigration, specifically with the Denmark's largest minority group: Muslims, who make up 3% of the population.

This has even led to suggestions by some right wing groups that her attitude towards Islam might be because she is a Muslim herself.

On the other hand, her moves to appease this portion of society with statements and rhetoric that support a tough approach against asylum seekers had left her open to accusations that she hates Muslims.

Is there something to any of this then?

Unlikely.

She had a fairly conservative upbringing, and the Danish population is largely atheist. But you never know I guess.
