Probably the most significant outcome of this is that since the United States, who have a higher percentage of Christians than other nations, have has legislated in favour of gay marriage, the rest of the Western nations will follow suit. That won't happen in the Islamic theocracies, of course.

My opinion? This is the 21st century: It's time we dropped the last vestiges of Victorian morality.

As a matter of fact, I'd never noticed that, Bub. You were always a friendly voice and I certainly can't recall you ever being aggressive, but I never associated it with "lack of combativeness". I think this one is worth standing up for, though.

That's exactly what I thought! : )

I'm so excited for all you Americans! I think gays and lesbians should have the right to make the same mistakes us straight people do! I shouldn't say mistake though cos my uncle was second legal same sex marriage in my province years ago  and they are still together ... And so happy :) I love happy endings !

Now we can stop fighting over it and focus on other issues. No more stupid divorced politicians saying "I support the sanctity of marriage" and then being caught cheating on their wives later. I never got why so many anti-gay guys were either divorced or cheaters. Anyway, now that they have their rights anti-gay groups will hopefully move onto something else

In America---we hold these truths to be self evident ...all men are created equal, that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights, that among them are Life,Liberty, and the Pusuit of Happiness.

Where is there a clause in our nation's historical record that these unalienable rights only apply to fundamentalist Christians?

Gay marriage doesn't bother me at all, because I am rational and tolerant.

That is the existing law upheld. You " activist judge " types never cry when the judgements go your way but your tears could drown a small city if the judgments go against you.

The Constitution is the law of the land and legislation of states or federal governments can be overturned by the Supreme Court. That is their job.

You say one thing but I am guessing your real objection to this decision is just religious. If that is true you need to remember what century this is.

I would like to speak about my country...

Here in the Philippines, culture makes it wrong. Same sex marriage is wrong because God just created man and woman. So, only that 2 should exist. That's why gays and lesbians are not so welcome here. Some get bullied some are not. Some are accepted and some are not. Some are continue to be rejected.

For me, we should just go with the flow; that people really change. As the saying goes, it is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent but the ones most responsive to change.

People have personal reasons why they are doing things. We should just learn to respect them and support them. We have a gift of wisdom, to all Filipinos out there, open your minds and think. As long as they are not hurting anyone and they continue doing good, it's fine for me to support those people who are in love with their same gender.

I think it is about time and can only wish that people would now just move on. Unfortunately, judging by my Facebook feed, that isn't going to happen. I have also found that some of my husband's family are much more narrow minded than I previously thought. Should make for an interesting visit next month. (sigh...)

We haven't even done enough research on homosexuality or what causes it, and we're already allowing the marriage?
