Since no contemporary accounts exist of Cleopatra’s life, it is difficult to piece together her biography with much certainty.  Scholars are still debating about her early years.  This site describes her travels with her father and a bit of her education.

She was not a Pharaoh.

Just a brave woman with a lot of scheming, scamming, controlling, money hungry, backstabbing, men in her life :)

I can't add to Uh Huh's answer but there's a bit of trivia concerning Cleopatra that you might find interesting.

When Julius Caesar commented on his military success he was supposed to have said, Veni, vidi, vici, which most people know means "I came, I saw, I conquered."

Less well known is Mark Antony's comment after he met Cleopatra. He said, Vidi, vici, veni.

You work it out. >:-/
