I live in Belfast Northern Ireland, and I was wondering what people's general views are about Belfast or Northern Ireland? Our little country has changed completely over the past 20 years.

I worked for the government and was a regular long-term visitor to Belfast all through "the Troubles", and I even liked the place then.

I have got some stories to tell, both scary and funny, and I met Gerry Adams in the Europa Hotel on one occasion.

I have to say that as much as I hated his politics, I found him a charming, smiling and polite man.

In my part of the world we make little distinction between Ireland as a whole and Northern Ireland. The division is unfortunate and will ultimately have to be resolved.

To me Ireland seems a most beautiful country with a proud history and a unique mythology and culture. And you've given the world some wonderful literature from the likes of George Bernard Shaw, James Joyce, and although he's not as well known as the others, my own favourite, George Russell.

The Irish people I've met in Oz -- whether visitors or migrants -- have been friendly and I've yet to meet one I didn't like.

We all know about the bad times -- from the potato famine to "the troubles" -- and can feel your pain.

Erin go bragh!
