In what ways would you describe the internet or social media as a good thing? As a bad thing?

Internet is good for research. I like it for our little group of friends. But social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) is absolutely ridiculous and a waste of breath, type, reading and time.

Good: It allows you to stay in touch with people who don't live near you. It allows you to keep up with news and do research that would be more difficult in person.

Bad: Misinformation spreads incredibly easily. It can be addictive to the detriment of real life relationships.

Like most things in life, it can be a very positive thing if used responsibly ... Or go terribly wrong if used recklessly or for illegal or devious purposes.

On Internet, I could search for the information I want quickly and keep up with the current events just with a few clicks. Also, it is interesting to learn about others' point of view and have a dicussion. But recently I've found myself more and more addicted to the social media and that is annoying. I've been trying to get more of deep reading and avoid the distraction from the different kinds of Apps on my phone.

It can be very good thing if you use it right, social media has brought all of us together with this site.. Facebook allows you keep in contact with friends and family all over the world.. Overall,it's pretty nice in my opinion.

Here is the good. I belong to a community Facebook page that was developed to help others. As far as I know it started shortly after a hurricane. It is a way to get people who are willing to help matched up with those that need help. I found the group after they organized a clean up at someone's place after a storm. They had horses and trees were down everywhere. The wife died during the storm when a tree fell on her while she went to check on the horses. The husband couldn't clear the mess alone, and had no money because he had to pay for a funeral. Not to mention the grief he was feeling. This group organized about 20 people with trucks, trailers, chainsaws, and rakes to clean up. Several local restaurants donated food to feed those working.

They continue to do good we works, those not usually on such s big scale. A single mom is sick and needs her yard mowed or an elderly woman lost her husband and needs her gutters cleaned. Or during fire season, finding restaurants to donate food for firefighters. 

The bad is the bullying that drives young people to suicide.
