Pretty much like they are now, but with less political and economic power. To say that all women were subservient housewives during this era would be a mistake, but they certainly didn't assert themselves like the women of the 21st century do. Of course there are plusses and minuses to this change in attitudes and I'm certain that most of the plusses would be registered by the women of the 60s and the minuses by their men (I'm one of them), but I think in the long run everything will eventually settle somewhere in between the tyranny of men of the past and the rising tyranny of women.
