Dillo has a disease called acromegaly, a form of gigantism. This is a hormonal disease in which a person's body tissues never stop growing. This causes organs such as the heart to be overwhelmed and become damaged. The source of the problem lies in the pituitary gland in the brain. This is where the growth hormone responsible for the disease is produced. Most cases are caused by a small and harmless tumour on the pituitary gland. This disease is more common in developing countries that lack adequate medical care to treat the illness. Brain surgery requires highly skilled surgeons with advanced equipment. Famous giants such as Andre the Giant and Yao Defen are examples of people with acromegaly who have suffered as a result of inadequate medical treatment.
