The Industrial Revolution began in the first half of the Eighteenth century and early nineteenth century, bringing about many changes to the world and the way people lived and worked. It originated from Britain with a complete revolution in socio-economic activities, technology and culture. Manual labor was replaced by machines with a change in the iron making techniques, textile industries etc.

This revolution also developed the roads, railways and canals thus improving trade. It was this time when steam power was introduced and other powered machinery greatly enhanced production line especially in textile industries. Eventually the industrial revolution spread through out Western Europe and North America bringing about a great deal of social change as well. In the later eighteenth century the steam powered ship was developed and the engine was developed in the later nineteenth century. People started migrating from the country side to the towns where more work could be found in such factories. Farmers were made low as the machines decreased the number of jobs in the farms.

Though machines took over but labour was still required to operate them. Due to this, there was a huge increase in the population in London as families started cramping in to the city looking for better jobs. However, it was the industrial revolution that completely changed the face of the world overall.

It really began in Britain with changes in farming methods, mainly in the early 18th century though the changes can be traced back earlier. The industrial revolution itself got going towards the end of the 18th century with the growth of manufacturing, and reached its height in the 19th.
