The traditional occupation of Kushwaha is agriculture/market gardening. They can be found on both sides (landlord as well as landless) in Bihar. Saini Mali caste of Rajasthan/UP also has the same occupation and hence it may be similar to Kushwaha caste.

As per my knowledge, Malis and saini are both one caste... And Saini of Punjab later on thought they are more rich then malis so they took them apart from mali.
