Well, it is relevant. It is a support for the underdeveloped countries a number of ways.
It acts as a protector for small countries against the western hegemony. Not only this, it empowers the member states to take their own decisions without external influence.
It is a breath of fresh air for the 3rd world countries. Fighting against social-economic problems and working towards development are its new motives.
The non-aligned movement can also play an important role in the direction of evolving one world by exerting pressure on those "who have sought to divide it through power politics based upon the nuclear arsenals and advanced delivery system through economic blocs based upon exploitation, through racial politics based upon traditional beliefs."
In fact, at present when so many regressive forces are operating in the direction of disturbing the oneness of humanity, the non-aligned movement can play a vital role in curbing these divisive and destructive forces and creating one world based on respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity; non-interference in internal affairs, non-use of force or threat of force to settle international disputes, the equality of all sovereign nations and peoples, respect for the dignity of the human personality and the right of all the people to be free and enjoy the fruits of freedom. Until this is achieved, Non-alignment has a role to play and when this is achieved. Non-alignment will find self-fulfilment in its own Nirvana.
The non-aligned countries can certainly contribute to the reduction of the rigidity of the bipolar alliances and denigrate the role of nuclear weapons in international politics. If the non-aligned nations challenge the legitimacy of the weapons of mass destruction and brand the use of nuclear weapons as a crime against humanity, the super powers shall not be able to flout the world opinion. This may ultimately pave the way for the conclusion of the universal convention forbidding the use of the nuclear weapons.
Many scholars believe that NAM has lost its relevance with the end of cold war. This contention is based on the wrong assumption that 'the only reason behind the evolution of the concept of 'non alignment' was bloc politics'. However the movement originated out of the zeal of third world and developing countries to preserve world peace, independence, unity and harmony. NAM is opposed to colonialism, imperialism and hegemony of powerful countries. Seen in this light the NAM still has a greater role to play in todays world.
It has a great effect n the present world. India is free from any international invasion and is leading a peaceful life. Without the nam today, maybe would not have our independence today.
In todays world ,nam has lost its relevance. When the summit meetings of NAM are held, the question of its relevance is raised. Though the number or member countries has increased to 118, the NAM is not in a position to act even as a forum for displaying solidarity of third world countries.
The objectives of the NAM is still relevant today and the countries which are not members of this movement must also be encouraged to join to make world free from wars. This will prevent the peace process from further deteriorating.
Yes of course, there is a relevance of nam in the present world . Although the cold war has ended NAM hasn't lost it's relevence it still works for development of the third world countries and most importantly for disarmament.

Now the present world scenario is in a slow but steady race. Unipolar is slowly shifting towards a multipolar one. Now the world is eager to look into the matters of fastest growing economies too. That means especially the global economic crisis is the causing factor. Even G8 realised that they cannot withstand in this crisis era without devoloping nations. So NAM a non aligned system can play a big role. Without challenging other nations the members could attain much through their views and objectives.
Nam has seming lost its usefulnes at de current scenario,as any1ne can think de world is now in de era of unpolar situation , no one is competing each other for dominance over de world but if we analyise curent situaton we simply get de sense of dominance of a single developed influencial nation. No other nation is in de field to realy restrict them for their selfish acts of using their influence over de world just 4r their own motives, nam was started to opose de polarisation of de world in2 2 groups , for establishment of peace n security 4r whole world .actualy today wid de collapse of former soviet ussr no one is in positon to chek de either side leader of de polarised group .inpast nam was used to not get engage wid any of the 2 groups , but today it is more relevant to stop n opose de only current super power , no one is in position to check their influence now , so it must be de responsibility of nam nations to save de world 4rom geting unipolarised ,against them .
