There is no country with the international dialling code of 97, or more accurately, +97.  However, there are eight countries with three-digit dialling codes that begin with 97. These countries are the United Arab Emirates (+971), Israel (+972), Bahrain (+973), Qatar (+974), Bhutan (+975), Mongolia (+976), and Nepal (+977). The dialling code +970 is also active, having been assigned to the Palestinian National Authority. Additionally,+979 is the international premium rate service dialling code, which means it's used by businesses that want to offer a fee-based service through telephone calls. Tech support is a common use for such premium numbers, as are adult phone services. The dialling code +978 is not active.

Many international cities make use of the code 97, too. These cities are located in countries including Armenia, Chile, Egypt, Georgia and the Ukraine.

When looking up a phone number, it's always important to use the first number and not simply rely on its first few digits. Phone numbers contain a wealth of information that isn't limited to their country of origin, but can also provide insight into the caller's location on a provincial or even municipal level. At the very least, you'll avoid having to hear somewhat unspecific answers like this one.

Additionally, if you suspect that you're being called by a telemarketer or scammer then there is always a good chance that someone else has had or is having the same experience with a phone number as you are. As such, a more specific enquiry may be able to provide you with more detailed information like the caller's purpose. This way, you can also put your experiences online and help advise other people of the nature of the phone call.

It's probably not the answer you were looking for, but it is the most helpful response that can be offered without a more complete phone number that includes the complete country code.

There are many different ISD codes but there is not a country that has the code 97. ISD codes have three digits. Some country codes do start with the numbers 97 and end with a third digit. These countries are;

  • Bahrain
  • Bhutan
  • Israel
  • Mongolia
  • Nepal
  • Qutar
  • United Arab Emirates
One of these countries may be the country beginning with 97 that you are looking for. You can find a full list of ISD codes online by typing 'list of ISD codes' into a search engine.
  • ISD Codes
An ISD (or International Subscriber Dialing) code is given to a country and used for many different reasons.

  • Uses
These can be used to find out where a product has come from as the code will be shown on the product label or packaging. They are also used when there is text in a particular language.

An ISD code is also used to identify a country of origin on a passport and will be on multiple computer systems and databases about immigration and any background records that are held internationally.

  • Importance
It is important to have an internationally recognized code for identifying countries. There are countries that have completely different names when said or written down in different languages. This makes it easier to identify a country when trading internationally or working internationally with different companies and there is an issue with a language barrier.

Internationally recognized codes exist in many different industries and they can be useful for many different reasons. There are many medications that will have the same code in different countries and this will help when prescribing medications when a patient is abroad or if a doctor is working in a foreign country.

  • Other codes
The periodic table is also an example of internationally recognized code. Having this as internationally recognized will prevent any issues with different chemicals and will also help with scientists working in different countries.

Don't bother if you get caught by unanswered phone call from those 97x numbers. I read the story that in those countries some folks got bored and they try to scam people from West. Once you 're naive enough to call back they'll tell some bs story and try to cheat you.
Also be aware of some other unanswered phone calls because some scammers call from numbers which are premium charged. And if you call back your operator will charge you a fortune.
