The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburgh Landing, was a major battle in the Western Theater of the American Civil War, fought on April 6 and April 7, 1862, in southwestern Tennessee.Confederates planned to drive the defenders away from the Tennessee River into the swamps of owl creek to the west, but Grant's men instead fell back in the direction of Pittsburgh Landing to the northeast.
