Games at birthday parties are not as featured as they used to be.  The days of pin the tail on the donkey and hop scotch are over having been replaced by Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360’s.  Games at a party should include everyone and not be limited by game consoles.  If there are going to be enough guests and your children enjoy sports, you could make it a softball, soccer or other team sport day with all the trimmings.  Picnics with scavenger hunts are another idea for girls that still enjoy the outdoors.  For the girls who prefer to be indoors, possibly a full scale tea party or mystery theatre performed by the parents.  The point is for everyone to have fun.

Simple settings with flashes of style that reflect the spirit and style of the 12 year old along with her favorite foods done in creative ways good friends and family is always going to be special.  Focusing on the birthday girl rather than the frenzy of large parties can work wonders for reinforcing fragile self esteem and family bonds.

In order to avoid all of the frantic overreactions of an unhappy 12 year old, it’s going to be in your best interest to include her in the planning.  Start with a budget and then you can consider her favorite foods, games, activities, interests, hobbies etc.  Those will give you some outlining ideas for possible scenarios.

Once you have considered your budget you can start planning.  Try to be creative in making the event fun and memorable.  Weather you decide on a simple picnic style party for the kids with yard games or an indoor theatrical showing with mingling guests or a pool party, the point is to celebrate the 12 year old's birthday as a family.

PLAY FLASHLIGHT TAG!! I loved playing that when I was your age. I'm 15 now.
Ok. Let me explain. It's an outside game and the more people the more fun. One or two people start out with a flashlight.(depends on how many people) The rest go and hide and the it people count to, lets say 50. The it people turn on their flashlights and try to find the rest of the people. And if you get tagged by them, then your it,too!!

Well, I'm going to be 12 in September and these are some of my ideas...
* a mall scavenger hunt... You have to take pix with whatever is on your list.
* Dance Party Sleepover
* Laser Tag
* Birthday in August- you do a party in august where you go 2 a water park with friends you also play games like tug-a-war in a lake.
* Fear Factor Party.
These ideas work for all ages, I recomend around 8-15 years old

You could play a balloon game where everybody holds a blown up balloon that isn't tied and on the count of three everybody lets go and whoever gets their balloon the closest to the target (a packet of sweets) wins!

well I'm 15 but this sounds like an amazing party x] I'd love to go! Haha. Well if you really want games around that kinda 80's thing just take fun party games and twist them into a fun time era. Like get some empty pie pans or something and fill them up with cool whip or whip cream and inside somewhere place like an 80's bracelet and be like " yeah! Who ever finds the 80's surprise first wins!" but you can pick the prize....I don't like&tbsp; to do prizes :D

did I help at all?

Number Fights: Have the kids divide evenly. Give each person a number and have the kid's line up (team 1 & team 2) across from each other. Set a handkerchief in the middle of the two teams. The person who is “it” will call out a number and the kids who have that number have to race to get the handkerchief in the middle. Whoever gets it wins a point for their team.

Jackpot 500 - One person is the manor. The stand at the front and everyone else stands behind them. The manor can call out dead or alive. Dead: The ball must touch the ground before someone gets it (except the manor). Alive: They must catch it in the air. The manor yells out something* and say dead or alive with it. Once someone gets to 500 points, they become the manor.

*Things you can call out:
100 (dead or alive or mailbox)
200 (dead or alive or mailbox)
300 (dead or alive or mailbox)
400 (dead or alive or mailbox)
Jackpot (dead or alive or mailbox)
Mailbox- You hold the ball in your hand away from you and all the players rush to get it, and the manor must have something in mind like 100, or 200 (not dead or alive because it's mailbox)
Mystery Box:
The manor can yell mystery box (dead, alive, or mailbox), and the manor must have some mystery box thing in her mind.
Stuff in the mystery box:
The manor can only call out one of these for a player each time they catch it.
Bubblegum- They must plant their feet where they caught it, and stand there until the manor gives them another mystery box, and says 'no taste'.
Underwear: The player that gets the ball must walk like their underwear is falling off, and must wobble. (The manor must say mystery box and 'pants' to get out of underwear
Leaner- They must lean on one foot. (Repair to get out)
Soldier- However they catch the ball, they must not use that body part, until the manor says mystery box and 'Oil'.

Have fun!!!

My friend and I are 2 days apart and are turning 12!!! We shared a party and got a party bus. We split the cost and split the list we both invited 25 friends and that equals fifty minus the people who couldn't come so we ended up with 46 friends. It was a boy girl party and we had so much fun. The bus took us along the coast of San Diego to Carlsbad where we got Pizza Port pizza and Jamba Juice smoothies. After that we all got dropped off at the beach where a bonfire was set up with benches around it; it was a great time to flirt with your boyfriend and have fun with your friends. 5 girls ended up spending the night at my house in Del Mar and the guys came over and we hung out till' about 11:00 so funn!!!!! Hope this helps.

My daughter said to play pin the tail on the donkey, which is actually fun when you get it going, when my son turned 14, they played it and had a blast! You could do a pinata, and then you could play charades too. Sorry if you don't like the ideas, but they are fun when you get into them. Hope this helps.

Well, I have a range of ideas for you;
Stay at home and play games and chill out with your friends.
Go bowling or to the cinema.
Go shopping and then for a meal.
Invite as many people as you can get to come and have a huge house party! (with parents' permission of course!)

Hi I'm just like you trying to figure out what to do for my 12th birthday.   Here are some ideas that I came up with...a Girls Night Out/In party.   You would go to the movies and out to dinner or something outside of your home...or you can have the girls come for makeovers a stuff like that in your house.   Or you can have an AVON party and have a rep. Teach you stuff.   And if you want to invite the guys you can do a party at your favorite resturant or go to an amusment park...depending on the the!! GOOD LUCK, I hoped I helped!! ~Samantha M.

80's party for a 12 year old girl - I've been doing theme parties for myself since I was three years old, and I think I'm up to the very last one, so I wanted to make it great! I became interested in the 80's after hearing some music from that period, loving the "1985" song from Bowling for Soup that's played constantly on the radio, watching VH-1's "I Love the 80's" series and seeing the 80's-style clothes that are now in stores! I began the party planning with the COSTUMES: I'm probably wearing a black tank top and hot pink mesh shirt over it (both from Limited Too) with a short black skirt and black tights cut off at the knees. She'll wear little white socks with black pumps (from Payless) and accessorize with TONS of jelly bracelets and pearl-like necklaces in black and hot pink (from Claire's) as well as lace gloves with the fingers cut off (also from Claire's).  Mom's costume came from ebay - it's a black prom-like dress, drop waisted with several layers of ruffles.  Shell also wear little white socks, black pumps, cut off gloves, jelly bracelets and pink pearl necklaces. Dad's costume will be a Boy George lookalike from Funwirks.com.  INVITATIONS:  I burned a "get in the mood for the 80's" cd to be mailed out with the invitations. It has 21 of MY moms favorite 80's tunes from Lauper, Madonna, Boy George, Romantics, B-52's, Go-Go's, Michael Jackson, Wham! And lots more.  The paper invitation I created on my computer using black, hot pink and lime green. It states, "Like, omigod, we're having a totally awesome, totally 80's party!  Like, will we have a totally rad time?  Fer shure!  If you can't come, well, gag me with a spoon!  We'll party like it's 1985! It'll be like, so gnarly, dude!" Included in the invitation are suggestions for costumes (pink and black, mini skirts, shoes with little socks, off the shoulder sweatshirts, leg warmers, etc. I also listed some movies that they might want to watch before coming to the party if they're interested in the 80's, such as "The Wedding Singer," "Breakfast Club," "Pretty in Pink," "Sixteen Candles" and "Ferris Bueller."  The CD and invitation were mailed out in CD mailers from sleevecity.com. DECORATIONS: Neon colors were hot in the 80's so our theme was hot pink, lime green with black as the accent. Tablecloths were black with hot pink and lime green plates, napkins and silverware.  Balloons were pink, green and black (neon balloons are hard to find - stumpsprom.com had them!) I hung lots of streamers in those three colors as well.  I downloaded 16 pictures of famous 80's stars from the internet, enlarged them and mounted them on neon construction paper.  The stars included Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson and many of the others mentioned in the song "1985."  I also printed out from the computer signs with 80's slang words such as "Awesome," "Radical," "Gnarly" "Gag Me With a Spoon," "Fer Shure" and "Grody" and mounted them on neon paper as well. ACTIVITIES:  Once everyone arrived, we did hair and makeup.  I had TONS of styling gel and hairspray as well as a crimping iron to make the biggest hair possible. We used bright colors for the makeup and I showed them that layering the eyeshadow into a "rainbow" effect was all the rage!  We played several games using the pictures hung on the walls. Each girl received a booklet I made and photocopied to record her answers.  The first was to try to identify the 80's star. Each picture on the wall had a number and a page in their booklet had the names of the stars. They had to write the number next to the name that they thought matched. We did a similar game with the 80's slang words. A page in their book had the meaning of the word/phrase and they had to find the 80's slang that matched. A third game was "Who Sang that 80's Tune?"  They had a list of 8 singers/groups - I played a bit of a song by one of the artists and they had to write down the number next to the person they thought sang that. I used some "recognizable" names such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Springsteen, etc. Then we had a Rubix cube race to see if anyone could solve the puzzle (mini cubes were found at orientaltrading.com). Of course, 80's music was playing throughout and there was lots of dancing!  CRAFT:  Each girl had a disposable camera to use throughout the party (great fun) and took it home to be developed.  The craft was decorating a mini photo album from orientaltrading.com.  I made a label for each album that said "Awesome Photos from Our Totally 80's Party!" with an "I LOVE THE 80's" logo on it.  They used foam stickers to decorate.  FOOD: Lunch was simple and standard - pizza - but for the snack table I had 80's food in pink and green bowls on a black tablecloth with signs describing them. "1981 Skittles Comes to the USA", "1986 - Haribo Gummi Bears Come to the US", "1981 Juice Boxes are Invented," "1987 Snapple Beverages are Introduced," "1988 Cadbury Chocolate comes to the USA" "1986 Cheetos Hit the Market" and "1986 Pop Secret Appears on Store Shelves" (all information found on the internet). TREAT BAGS:  I found neon handled bags at Michaels and printed out labels that said "Totally Awesome Treat Bag" with the I LOVE THE 80's logo.  Inside they placed their photo album, camera and Rubix cube.  I burned another CD of 80's music to include and I included some of the 80's food in snack sizes with little labels describing their relevance to the 80's - skittles, Cheetos, and Gummi Bears. Like all of our parties before, this one was a blast!

But if you are willing to spend get her a laptop  or a ds , if not a video game that fits her personality or a gift card (because then she could just buy whatever she wants and she will thank you later) I hope I helped!
