According to a statistics report, the Eastern Cape is the poorest province, based on monthly expenditure per person. About one in 5 people there have never received any education, even though the exisiting schools are often very good, and wages are very low. Free State and the Northern Province are also very poor areas, while the richest South African Province is Goateng.
