Because they taste nice? Why do non black people spend so much time observing what black people do and don't do? Are they bored?
I'm black and I don't like watermelon or chicken. There's a KFC near my house and more whites than blacks eat there.
People that are offended by this question need to do us all a favor and shut up. This is not a racist question. The question the individual is asking is why is this a stereotype of black people. And the answer is simple and not racist at all. The reason why black people eating chicken, watermelon, and drinking kool-aid is a stereotype is because it's true. What makes it true is that it is more common that minorities are poor, and in the poorer communities, things like menthol cigarettes, kool-aid, chicken, and watermelon are marketed more and are heavily available rather than something like a rib-eye steak. Then, the next question someone may ask is why are there more poor black people than poor white people, and the answer is because in poor families, they have less support from their parents and are told they're going to be failures in life when they're in their developmental stages in life, so they fail. It's just the very nature of being human. That's why black people that grow up in suburbia with supportive parents that aren't verbally negative with their children are more likely to be successful human beings. Basic developmental psychology, not racism.
Actually, watermelon is one of the best things you can put in your body, in terms of nutrition and health.
I'm black and while I don't like fried food I LOVE watermelon. I could it that ALL day and not stop. It tastes awesome its food and water its sweet but not to sweet and best of all it doesn't fill you up so you can keep going nom nom nom.
Thumbs up I fyou love water melon too.

The same reason that all whilte people like water melon and AFC. Tt's all good tasting eating. Seesee
Watermelon is one of the most nutritious foods you can eat. It has 40% more cancer fighting lycopene than tomatoes. As for chicken, it is the best meat to eat if you still eat meat, as long as it is not fried. The bigoted ignoramus (the two go together) who posed the question for attention, does not know that fried chicken & fast food are the most common meals in white households. In African countries, most people eat a vegetarian diet unlike American households. Ask Paula Deen, the darling of white folks, who eats more fried chicken and watermelon and soul food, that is really southern food, than anyone else. My question is why do whites make fun of the food black people eat, but not other cultures? Italians and pizza, Irish and potatoes, American whites-bologna and beer, Asians and whatever fits into a pot? TV has made it acceptable and commonplace to denigrate and dehumanize black people. This is the heritage that originates with Jewish males who began and profited from hundreds of years in the slave trade & later with tenement housing & more. TV stereotypes & sends subliminal messages equal to the Aryan myth of white superiority that strangely Jewish people still propagate. White Americans thrive on the notion of white superiority and never question nor reject the racism & bigotry that is so ingrained and part of the American culture. This country will never be what it could be because of this inherent sickness and epidemic disease.
You shouldn't take "stereotypes" so seriously, sometimes they are made for political or social purposes or different purposes. They are not facts, but sometimes they might have some truth in them. Dark skinned people "blacks" may have common likes and dislikes in the united states, but not necessarily the same for dark skinned people in Europe, Australia, Africa and Arabian countries. Sometimes it's related to the culture itself and it's traditions, habits and sources of living. For example, in a country in the Arabian Gulf, you might find most dark skinned people like fish, not only them, but as well as most people in there.
Scientifically likes and dislikes are not related to race, it's difficult to generalize a certain claim on the majority. I recommend for you to read a critical thinking book, you will be enlightened :)

Are you kidding me? This is just slightly offensive. I'm sure not ALL black people like those foods. It may be more prevalent in black culture like burritos in hispanic culture and sushi in Japanese culture. Nuff said.
Everybody loves watermelon and it's the best substitute for water and food in one. As to KFC, it is a misconception that ALL likes it. Just like any people, KFC may not be acceptable to their taste buds or system. So, it is erroneous to say that ALL BLACK people likes these types of food.
May be this thing will be relative to your region only. Just because of the environment of that place. Watermelon give respite from the heat and humidity while non veg generates lots of energy and heat in the body of a individual only to make him look for such things like watermelon. I think the more the heavy muscular physique one will have he will crave for such food but I think any one can long for such food diet.
I think that this is not bad its just a funny joke I'm black(and proud)and I don't take this offensive because its funny to me actually I was cracking up. One of them on a different site was so much more offensive then this they said that the reason why black people eat fried chicken is because most of them are poor and thats the only meat they can afford really that one kind of made me mad but I really don't care about what people think about us because everyone have their own opinion they want to think that let them think that if they are racist let em be everyone is different and not everyone in the world will agree w/ us but that is life for yu.like you guys might not agree w/ me thats apart of life.
Watermelon originates from South Africa.
Hmmm I've never heard of this stereotype before. Just to be nit-picky your question should have said "most" because not "all" like. Black people are equal to everybody else, so, many probably like it cause it tastes good just like most everybody else.
I am not black and I do resent this line of questioning, I love the same foods
The trouble with people that view behavior as race specific are limited in their test cases. They don't know enough people across a wide demographic. I am black and I have friends and ex co-workers of all races and have gone out to eat at more places than I care to remember. People eat a variety of foods. At one time in my life I catered dinners. I cook a wide range of asian dishes I do 3 styles of regional chinese and a variety of southern style and mexican cuisine. I have never limited myself in any area of my life by using the words always & never. I am a self taught cook. As far as kool-aid, the usual joke is , we like red (no matter the flavor). All these statements are an insult to my race. Some questions are thought provoking, this question was just provoking
I like watermelon and KFC. I am not black.
I have plenty of black friends and relatives that do not like KFC, and honestly I'm not a humongous fan of watermelon myself. I feel this is an offensive question. Are you racist?
This question in itself is quite offensive to all. Not just the beautiful black people. I don't like KFC like I used to because it is fried. Fried foods are baaaaad. I like watermelon but not too often.
But... More general; all black people I know eat chicken meat 99% of the time. Why is that? Also, most black people I know would never drink beer; it is not sweet enough. This does not seem to be connected to their local culture.
Why is it not allowed to hypothesize that some preferences in life style could be genetically encoded? I think it is ignorant to be very PC about all such things. White people can't dance; Is that preference? No it is probably genetic.

I like watermelon and KFC. I am mixed
I don't understand why people have that stereotype. KFC is unhealthily greasy and I hate watermelons, it's tasteless. You might as well have a glass of water. Where did this stereotype come from?
It's just our culture. Our parents grew up liking watermelon and KFC, and feeding it to us more often than, say, an asian would eat KFC.
And don't even get me started on chicken and waffles...
And don't even get me started on chicken and waffles...
Man, you people need to chill out it is a simple question nothing more, and some people need to now these things, people stereo type all the time and others just don't get it. The reason is probably she/he has heard this so many times and doesn't get it.
Well I'm white and black .
I hate watermelon and KFC Sucks.
I don't see how people can even think that I would like that kind of stuff.
What I do like is sushi and dragon fruit.
And I grow organic certified food ,love fishing and hunting the fresher the better when it comes meat.
