Culture has a number of different meanings. The word is derived from the Latin word cultura which means, "to cultivate." The word is commonly used in a number of different settings. Firstly, culture can be used to describe an excellent taste in fine arts. It is also an integrated pattern of human knowledge, beliefs and behavior that is dependant upon the capacity for thought and social learning. Culture can also be described as a set of shared values, goals and attitudes that sum up an organization or group. Culture refers to ways of life including language, which is the oldest medium of expression. It can also refer to how people perceive the world around them. More recently culture came to refer to the concept of anthropology. Anthropology is the universal human capacity to classify and encode experiences, and to communicate those experiences to the next generation. The United Kingdom was the country that developed cultural studies. This was influenced by Marxism and was developed by people like Stuart Hall and Raymond Williams. Marxism is a worldview pioneered by Karl Marx that centers upon the interpretation of history and a view of social change. It influenced political movements around the world. As a whole, then culture can be described as the total of inherited ideas, beliefs, values and all knowledge that constitutes the basis of a shared action. Yeats, when talking about culture, said "for without culture or holiness, which are always the gift of a very few, a man may renounce wealth or any other external thing, but he cannot renounce hatred, envy, jealousy, revenge. Culture is the sanctity of the intellect." People who share a group of ideals, beliefs, knowledge and actions are said to share one single culture, and therefore there are many cultures that people can be a part of.
