The Old Kingdom was from 2686bc-2181bc, the Middle Kingdom was from 1991bc-1786bc, and the New Kingdom was from 1570bc-1070bc. The New Kingdom was a 500 year long period in which ancient Egypt became the world's strongest power. King Tut was actually born Tutankhaton- however he removed the "-aton" from his name and became Tutankhamen. This was done to restore religious order to Egypt- a move away from the worship of the god Aton and back to the more popular Amon-Re and all the other old deities that Aton had replaced.
