King Tutankhamun (also known as King Tut) is thought to have been eighteen or nineteen years old when he died.

Who Was King Tutankhamun?
Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh who lived over three thousand years ago.

His tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter and George Herbert, and is known for being one of the most luxurious and intact tombs that have been unearthed so far - it had been buried and forgotten for so long, that no looters had been near it for thousands of years!

The discovery of the young pharaoh's tomb marked the beginning of a renewed interest in the Valley of the Kings, and King Tut’s iconic burial mask has since become a symbol of ancient Egypt.

Tutankhamun ruled during the 18th dynasty, and took to the throne when he was only nine years old. DNA tests suggest that he married his half-sister, who was the third daughter of Queen Nefertiti.

How Did King Tutankhamun Die?
It’s hard to tell exactly how King Tut died, but the most recent tests seem to suggest that he died from a combination of a dangerous strain of malaria and an infected broken leg.

In the past, it was thought that he died from a blow to the head, but recent technological advancements have led this theory to be disproved.

Another theory is that genetic defects were partially responsible for King Tutankhamun’s early death. This theory is supported by DNA tests that suggest King Tut’s parents were brother and sister (incest was very common in those days), as interbreeding can often cause gene mutations and health problems.

King Tut (Tutankhamun) was actually very young when he died.  Science, using CT scans place his age at the time of his death at 19.
