King George III of Great Britain and Ireland, was the King of Hanover and Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg, he lived between 1760-1820. He was King when the American colonies withdrew from British rule. He was the elector of Hanover and elected as King of Hanover from 1815-20, when he died of dementia. His policies are considered to have caused the American Revolution against Britain. Attempts to force him to abdicate the throne failed and although he was blind from 1809 and had suffered an episode of dementia in 1765 he continued to reign until until his death although his son Geroge IV acted as a Regent from 1811 until his death at which time he became King.
