I would say yes, in a perfect world but this world is not perfect and the enemies of (israel)our friends do not hold to our beliefs or decisions.they would just as soon kill us all as to look at us and are doing everything they can to aquire nuclear arms.in fact just this morning i heard they are planning to attack 7 united states cities at the same time   as soon as they can aquire the materials to make dirty bombs or what they call suitcase bombs.this(removing law abiding countries ability to have nuclear arms) would be like telling citizens in the united states to give up their legal wepons/guns/rifles in order to lower crime rates while the criminals get their hands on machine guns, uzis, tech 9s and are invading homes at gunpoint only to steal dvds and video games.as the old saying goes it is a necessary evil (nuclear weapons)to defend against the criminal elements in other countries who have no morals against killing for no other reason than their religion says to kill the ones who don't believe(infidels) as they do and then promises the brainwashed children/men that they will have a harem of virgins/concubines for killing the innocent or ones who don't agree with their thinking.sorry for going off on a tangent but this is all part and parcel of the argument for keeping the world safe(if we can use that term with nuclear arms).

In a word, YES !!!   Nuclear weapons is absolute evil. Then perhaps, peace talks will then be achieved.

Nuclear weapons are merely tools, it is people who are 'evil'. Nuclear energy is vital for our future - same technology.

Madmacstew - I believe in nuclear technology, & its benefits, just not as war-weapons; & you right its not the weapons but the people/ governments that have an alternative motive.

Well thats a good question? I think USA should keep their Nuclear weapons because those are one of the reasons why we haven't been attacked by any other country. USA is the only country in the world with the most nuclear bombs. Plus after that Vietnam war with the atomic bomb....
Because of those facts I just told you, no other country wants to mess with USA.

They *should*, but that's completely impractical and will never happen.

Nope! Tht shud never happen cus no one will ever agree to it , and how the hell you gnna stop countries with nuclear weapons? Helllo , this is nuclear bombs we're talking about , its not a toy frm McDonalds , is it!   Plus we need protection , so if a country threatens to throw one at us , we can throw one bak , bekus of this scare , nobody dares too throw one, knowing tht it may not hit the target and hit elsewhere and bekus they are scared tht if they throw one , it may be thrown bak at them!         But i like to think it shud be banned.....

G'day

Thank you for your question.

It would be good to work towards this as an ultimate goal. Getting there is the difficult bit although much progress has been made.

No absolutely not. We know that bad guys are going to try to get a hold of them. So how else are we to protect ourselves? Think about it, do bank robbers not rob banks just because its illegal? No they still rob the bank anyways. Now that nuclear weapons exist you will always have hostile countries and radical groups trying and sometimes succeeding in obtaining nuclear weapons. If we outlawed nuclear weapons, we would be giving up our greatest source of protection! Is that really such a smart thing to do?

In a perfect world all nations would agree and abide by a no nuke law.   Unfortunately, it is not a perfect world and it never will be.   People lie and so do governments.   Even if an agreement was reached and a pact was signed and put into place, there would be some nut-case in some country that would save a few of his countries nukes back, keep them hidden,   and when every other country had disposed of theirs...out into plain view his would come.   As scary as they are, no country will be willing to risk such a scenario coming true.

'Should' they? Absolutely. Nuclear weapons are purely destructive instruments of death and pollute the environment in horrific ways long after they've murdered who knows how many.
Can they? Doubtfully. People are too suspicious of each other, and USA with its ridiculously huge army budget and tolerance for nuclear weapons doesn't help.
If there's any way to ensure that everyone stops making them, you'd have to be an idiot not to say that yes, they should be banned.

Yes to both. I believe the world should have a total ban, and that a committee should be set up, similar to the UN, that is tasked to dismantle & destroy the weapons [were possible] and the one's that are 'to dangerous or toxic' to destroy must be sealed in a chamber that in not accessible by any persons, country or technology; only a neutral party - there are some in the world!
Thats idealistic I know, but if I was living in the countries that have the major artillery of Nuclear weapons such as USA, Israel, N. Korea, Russia, China to name a few, I would be afraid that the enemy would get access to them & use the weapons against my country!
