It appears that in order for an individual to benefit from this stimulus package, a person must first invest their monies in a house, car, or some major purchase.  Then and only then, will a person receive some sort of tax break.  But would not the wonderful tax break received be required to be given back in the form of taxes on the new car or house?
We are headed for trouble!

From everything I had just read does NOT include individual check to taxpayers. Personally the government just WASTED a lot of taxpayer money. I see NOTHING in this plan that will directly effect the economy other than the government spending out money on transportation projects ect. They are giving taxpayers a credit in their pay checks but the biggest problem I see with this is that it will equate to approximately $20 per week the second half of the year (4 months away). $20.00 a week does not go very far. Not saying that $20.00 a week won't add up, but when you put this in comparison it actually does very little to help the people that need it most! This plan does NOTHING to help get people back to work except mostly those involved in the road / construction areas as that is where most of this money is being dumped to. It does nothing to help the average person that has been laid-off in the blue collar areas! I was hoping for major changes / help from the new administration, But as a Democrat myself, I have to side with the Republicans that this is nothing more than a giant spending bill. :(

I'm in total shock.   Everything seems to point to us NOT getting individual stimulus checks, i.e. The way we received won from President Bush last year.   Instead, from what I read and hear, the unemployed, retired, disabiled and elderly will NOT benefit from the working-man's tax credit that starts in FOUR months.    What a disgrace to those of us who had worked hard for 40 years but are deserving retired now.   We get "nothing"!!    And any blue collar workers still not employed by June will not feel the effects of the tax cuts either, will they?   This is troubling to say the least.    I had more faith in Obama!!   Please tell me I'm wrong and that we ALL we receive some type of stimulus refund check!!    ?

What makes you think like that if you file income taxes and you qualify you will be along with all others that get a check, there is something in the paper almost everyday about this money, read the paper,if I get one good, but I can't miss what I never had, good luck to you. Just file your taxes and see if you qualify.....Good luck to you, hope you do get it......

There is a 1 time payment of $250 that congress put in the package for those individuals on Social Security who don't qualify under the working man's credit. SS is supposed to have those checks out by June 17th, 2009.

In what way will we see them? In the social security checks? How about people on retirement ? Do they have to file a tax return?

What about retirees that worked 32 years for their state (Colorado) and were put on the PERA pension instead of social security? (We did NOT have a choice; P.E.R.A. Is the state's replacement for social security.) WILL PERA retirees get a one-time $250 check also?

It is money that is to go to the public, and in order to do that, there will be a individual check to a family if you have filed income tax,or do you think they should or will put the $819 billion in a box and allow people to have as much of it as you can grab...good luck

What about hard-working retirees -- will they receive any type of stimulus check in the mail? We worked 30-40 years and "earned" it. We could "help" the economy by spending IF they include us in the stimulus package. HELP! ARE RETIREES BEING FORGOTTEN?

I doubt it.  Only the big known companies will get the money. Us poor suckers have to keep working off for the rich. Only in AMERICA!!!!

How will the social security receive these since some of them do not have to file? Will they need to file a form? And when will this happen.

Give the money to the peop[le. After all, they are the ones who will pay this money backl. I estimate about a 1,000,000.000.00 to each american tax payer. Instant economy stimulus. And still have billions left over for jobs etc.

Government needs to REMEMBER THE RETIRED AND ELDERLY...... We've worked years and years and done our part. Is it really true that the stimilus package won't "directly" do anything for retirees, elderly and the unemployed? Baa Humbug..... I'll be VERY disappointed in President Obama if this is true. Ugh.....
