How do people become homeless? Like why doesn't anyone in their family or friends help

I think it depends on any number of circumstances. Often the person becomes estranged from family and friends. Mental illness, loss of job, physical limitations that prevent work, war veterans, single parents, there are many reasons.

There are many white papers on the problem of homelessness available on the web, with the various factors discussed. I think they conclude it is mostly drugs alcohol mental illness and poverty, with a large portion being personal choice  We live in a free country and this also means we are free to fail. BUT we also are a kind and giving nation, so we have warming shelters and rescue missions and all manner of help if people want it. They just often dont want it, they want their freedom.
